Blackpool Illumination Switch-On Festival Weekend
Three days in the Vegas of the North West
In 2015 we responded to a tender request from Blackpool Council, beating off stiff competition from 20 other event’s companies to deliver event and site management for the Blackpool Illumination Switch-On Festival Weekend.
The three-day festival took place on the Blackpool Tower headland, attracting around 30,000 people to the arena for music concerts, and to see TV royalty Dame Barbara Windsor, who was evacuated to Blackpool during the war, flicking the famous switch.
We built a temporary arena on the headland with a new stage and full lighting and sound production, regularly tested for safety in its exposed location. The project also had to be planned for a rapid build and break, to minimise disruption of the public highway running through the event site.
The Friday night switch on concert at the Blackpool Tower Festival Headland, featured some of the best of talent from local venues, before The Vamps, Fleur East and Diversity led by Ashley Banjo took to the stage. As well as the event arena on the headland we organised stewards and managed the health and safety planning and first aid facilities for the event.
