REM successfully delivered event management services for the Commonwealth Flotilla along with other elements of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, July 23rd – August 3rd.
REM began working on site on July 8th after months of planning, managing the delivery of the spectator zones and media facilities for the flotilla event in Greenock on behalf of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Scotland.
Our brief was arranged for the production and management of spectator zones for the largest flotilla ever seen on the River Clyde, with thousands of onlookers lining the river bank to watch 250 boats sail from Greenock to Glasgow’s Pacific Quay.
The flotilla was a spectacular element of the city’s celebrations, welcoming the 20th Commonwealth Games and helping create a very special atmosphere across the city and wider region. RYA Scotland alongside Inverclyde Council and REM designed the flotilla to celebrate one of the world’s greatest rivers and its place in Glasgow’s past and future.
Mike Richmond, managing director of REM, commented: “This July marks our eighteenth year working on events in public spaces. Our proven track record underpins our client’s confidence in our ability, particularly our maritime event ability to support the RYA’s delivery of a world class celebration.”
“We have worked on a lot of events in Scotland and are particularly proud to help the RYA, as well as providing additional overlay site management for the Glasgow Green Festival live site and to the Queen’s Baton Relay, contributing to these memorable Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.”
