In March 2020 we were appointed by NHS England to provide project oversight, supply chain and logistics management for the staff support services at the NHS Nightingale Bristol.

Working in close collaboration with a chain of verified NHS suppliers - who would be providing the infrastructure itself - we provided project management for this element of the build. To support the intensive care facility itself, we created canteens and respite areas, office and admin facilities, staff welfare and amenities such as toilets and showers.

Throughout the process we collaborated with multiple NHS departments, the landowner, the University of West England, as well as the lead construction contractor Kier - who provided the physical construction of the hospital.

The challenges of a particularly short timescale and a constantly developing brief are nothing unusual to us. Though creating a facility of this nature, which would usually take a few years for a permanent building, in a few weeks, was a stern test of our abilities.

The build also needed to be managed to strict Covid-19 compliance requirements and procedures, to ensure the safety of the teams of contractors making it happen.

We helped create a full budgetary overview to track and monitor on deliverables and timescales, sourcing and providing facilities in the budget during a critical phase of the COVID pandemic management.

‘We were delighted to have REM on board with us during this incredibly busy and intense project. They quickly became part of the team, cheerfully responding rapidly and professionally to the many problems we threw their way.’

Jo Anyon, Head of Facilities Management, Nightingale Hospital Bristol
