The REM team love Bristol Harbour Festival for a number of reasons: it’s the South West’s largest free public festival and is a celebration of all that makes Bristol such a fantastic place to live in, create in and visit. Our office is slap bang in the middle of the event site as well so it cuts down on cabin hire.
The event features a rich, multi-layered entertainment programme, accompanied by great food, lots of shopping opportunities and a celebration of all things maritime on the waters of the historic floating harbour. High profile and hugely talented artists play in the city’s outdoor spaces covering all genres including music, circus, street theatre, dance and children’s activities across eight stages and entertainment areas. The festival annually attracts an audience of 250,000 including local residents and visitors from all over the UK.It’s an example of a business model that REM have been developing over the last couple of years where we not only create, produce and manage an event but we also generate a significant portion of the revenue.
As with every event that REM are involved in – resting on the laurels is never an option. This year, we extended the on the water activity programme – after all, it’s a harbour festival, by bringing in acrobatic jet skis, gig racing and fly boarding. Around the site, we created an oasis of calm with our new Tea Dance tent where you could sashay to your heart’s delight whilst enjoying homemade cakes, introduced a new outdoor stage, put up and programmed a bandstand stage and attracted several sponsors. We even managed to bring the Saturday night Fireworks back.
